On our third day in Toronto, we decided to leave the city for a trip down south to the world famous Niagara Falls. We set off early to avoid heavy traffic.
Tim Hortons @ Niagara Falls
Even though we set off early, the journey from Toronto to Niagara took longer than expected due to traffic. Our first impression upon arrival, was that it seemed extremely touristy and like a poor relation to Las Vegas.
First stop when we arrived was, Tim Hortons for a dirty breakfast. We were starving after an early start and a longer than expected journey. They have a Tim Horton in Manchester but this was the first time we had tried it. I have to say it wasn’t the worst breakfast I have ever tasted. I would go as far as saying I would have it again.
My husband had the Sausage and Egg Breakfast Roll. Not quite to the standard of a Maccas double sausage and egg McMuffin but not bad.
I had the egg and cheese bagel, which once I removed all the unnecessary salad was just what I needed.
Niagara Falls
Once refreshed, we headed down to the falls. I don’t think anyone can deny that they are absolutely amazing.
Here are a couple of photographs that we took.
On our visit we saw the three of the falls that make up Niagara Falls. Our time was spent in awe of how spectacular they all were. We decided not to do a boat cruise into the falls as it was enough to stand and watch the water falling and hitting rocks and water beneath to create a tremendous spray.
There is also a viewing tower at the falls. We didn’t try that either as it was a much better experience to go right down to the falls and look from there.
Once we had seen all that we need to see at the falls we then headed back to Toronto.
Preparing Food from Eataly
On our way back from Niagara Falls, we decided to stop at Eataly again. This time we were buying some food for our evening meal.
There is a lot of good produce. So there were some tough decisions to be made.
We bought some wonderful items. Here are the details:
~ Amatriciana Sauce which was a tomato sauce with guanciale.
~ Tomato Sauce made with pelati tomatoes, basil and olive oil.
~ Fresh Tagliolini, this was slightly thicker than spaghetti and square strands.
~ Focaccia Pesto Calabrese, supersoft bread topped with cherry and sundried tomatoes and basil.
To accompany this we also purchased some Green Castelvetrano Pitted Olives, Grated Parmigiano and fresh basil.
Then for dessert we couldn’t resist the Panna Cotta with seasonal fruit and almond strudel. To go with this we also bought some juicy, perfectly ripened strawberries.
Here was the preparation underway…
Final results…
The whole meal was absolutely delicious.
We paired with a full bodied bottle of Primitivo.
The final verdict is that we would highly recommend Eataly! This meal was the perfect end to our day.
On to Day 4 to discover even more in Toronto.
